Amouage Homage Attar

Allow me to thank MimiGardenia for sending me this extremely extravagant sample of Amouage. I don't even want to go into the price of a tiny vial of this except to say it would make your hair curl ( if it wasn't already). Very, very precious juice to say the least and extremely concentrated.

Mims.....you are a true sweetheart and I am grateful for the sample more than you know. I haven't gotten around to this house, but I have read opinions and reviews. I am glad to have opportunity to sample and review this fragrance since most opinions are glowing.

I have to cast my lot with the "glowing" crowd. Allow me say this is an occasion scent.....unless, of course....you have the resources to wear this on a regular basis. That, however, would be an injustice since this is special and should be worn as such.

I have not become an Oud fan nor do I see that ever happening. My Western tastes are too ingrained, but I do take opportunity to try certain oud releases that garner accolades. After all......what's to lose? Well, I've gained something sampling this release. This is a soft, transparent rose sharing the spotlight with a soft, smooth oud-frankincense accord. At once, the opening is heavy, yet sheer enough to identify the players and the combination of rose plus frankin-oud is strikingly different.....but addicting.

The transition is subtle and allows a jasmin note to bolster the rose and add a touch of sweet to the mix. The oud is still there, but stays submissive enough to embellish and never pillages the composition. An extremely background amber adds a smidgeon of resin......coming to the aid of the frankincense that was starting to fade.

Homage Attar is so concentrated that it takes me hours to detect any woody base from sandal in the drydown. Only a few drops on strategic points yields a dense, glowing rose-oud with jasmin elbowing its way in after a few minutes. This accord keeps on giving and its life-force is truly admirable. Very intermittent whiffs of a citric wood are noted....but only after hours have elapsed and is finally given permission to introduce itself.

In closing, I have to say that Homage Attar is a beautifully made rose-oud that doesn't possess one rough edge anywhere. It's big, smooth, round and self sufficient. Quality is a fantastic thing in fragrance when you can literally smell it. As expensive as this is, all rose and/or oud lovers need to at least sample this release just for general principles. After all..........what have you got to lose?
