Bombay Bling by Neela Vermeire Creations

Mango, Lychee, Blackcurrant, Cardamom, Cumin, Cistus, Rose, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Tuberose, Plumeria, Gardenia, Patchouli, Tobacco, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Vanilla.

Bertrand Duchaufour has come up with a very interesting scent in Bombay Bling. The woody tobacco note is implemented as a foundation and I detect it upon initial application. In essence, this is a floral-tobacco-woody and rather versatile as well. The emphasis seems to be put on the tobacco and both genders are welcome to don this extremely comfortable creation.

Bombay Bling opens with a sweet and deep green, floral aroma. It is expansive and has a spicy edge to it. To me, I smell Lychee out front with the rest of the opening notes offering a substantial contribution of balsam and herbal tones along with that undercurrent of spice. It's not fruity, floral or herbal but a concerted effort resulting in a fully formed and substantial accord.

Bombay Bling settles down in 5 minutes with a  tobacco note merging with the top notes. From this point on, the tobacco anchors Bombay Bling. The heart accord experiences the emergence of a soft and dry trio of tuberose, rose and jasmine. It's tuning is perfectly suited for the "shared" category and as difficult as tuberose can be for some, it's used deftly here. It works extremely well pitted with the tobacco note. Heading into the base accord, Bombay Bling proves to be an excellent scent if you have a soft spot for this particular genre.

The base and drydown is a softening of the initial two accords. There's only a shadow of the opening, but it's wispy and I catch glimpses of it periodically. The tobacco and tuberose have merged and as the scent continues, these are accented by subtle earth and wood tones.

From the base onward, Bombay Bling leans a tad more masculine than feminine, but no where near enough to dissuade a potential wearing. This is only because the woody tobacco takes the baton at this stage. This is a real chameleon and a terrific one at that. It starts out in a more feminine direction then switches gears during the heart accord. The slow insertion of vanilla in the extended drydown is a nice, finishing touch.

Bombay Bling and Bertrand get a big thumbs up from me because I gravitate towards aromas such as this. It simply comes down to a matter of taste. Sillage is very good and longevity is 6 plus hours on me with even more projection from body heat. As always, a sample wear is recommended.

  3. I have been reading rave reviews about this, but you are the first to state that it ends up as more of a masculine scent... to me, the name suggests otherwise. Hmmmm, guess I'll have to sample this myself. But again, the FB price is so high!!! GRRRRR.

  4. Yea.....the $5 per ml. is steep, but both offerings were very good IMO. To me, the base is terrifically suited for men to wear. Bottom line is that anyone can successfully wear Bombay Bling. Treat yourself to a sample. Even if your perception of it is different than mine, chances are you will like it !

  7. Hi Aromi, I have got my samples today. I did not have to buy them. My friend sent them to me. Bombay Bling is absolutely gorgeous. Monsieur Duchaufour did it again. First compliment came from husband, which is the most important one fo me. A full bottle is quite expensive, though I have to purchase it. 9. Yes Aromi, it's absolutely terrific. It reminded me a little bit of Aliage, which I had in 70's. I haven't smelled it since then. Maybe I am wrong, maybe my memory is fooling me, I don't know. And I remember, I did not fall in love with Aliage, as with Bombay Bling. Bombay Bling is really a gem.:)
