Braggi by Revlon

This is a leather chypre from 1966 constructed by Revlon. Braggi is loaded with an all star cast from top to bottom, but it cannot escape smelling dated.

Aramis released their leather chypre a year prior and it's construction is able to transcend where I find Braggi stuck in the 60's. Don't misunderstand; Braggi is well made and quality was used in creating it. The "cologny" vibe is simply inescapable.

The citrus is overwhelmed by spices of cumin, tarragon and celery, mint, cardamon and thyme along with leather and it's simply too much of a good thing here. I don't get much herbaceousness in the opening and the floral heart is stood up against the wall and executed after a very brief and turbulent existence. The woody base is earthy and try as it might, the vanilla fails to add a much needed dimension. Being softened and sweetened would have done wonders for Braggi, but the listed vanilla simply doesn't get the job done.

If you enjoy old school power colognes with a definitive 60's vibe, Braggi will deliver.
