Un Bateu pour Capri by Eau d'Italie

Freesia, Peach, Peony. Jasmine, Heliotrope, Rose. Pear, Cedar, Musk. Designed to give the impression of water, boats, sea air, relaxation and whatever else one does on revitalizing excursions, Un Bateau pour Capri is marketed as a feminine and rightly so. Does this fragrance suggest the above to yours truly? Umm.......not even close, but marketing has their own agenda when it comes to name assignment. What Un Bateau pour Capri is in reality denotes a bouquet caught on a breeze. I've spent enough summer months as a young man on the Jersey shore to know when a scent doesn't capture or even suggest that quality. As we all know, this is a subjective experience and there may be those won't agree with me. This floral array evokes a moist and freshly cut bouquet. There's a soft, powdery texture inherent in the accord, but it's an accent more than an active participant. I can't honestly say I realize "fruit" since this is supposed to be a fruity ...

Jardin du Poete by Eau d'Italie

Green Orange, Sweet Orange, Bitter Orange, Grapefruit, Blackcurrant, Petitgrain, Buchu Leaf, Basil, Angelica, Cardamon, Pink Bay, Cyclamen, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Moss, Immortelle, Cypress, Hay, Musk. In this midst of the citric-herbal onslaught that is the opening of Jardin du Poete, there were fleeting moments of the best grapefruit rendition I have come across. It wafted through the accord for just a few minutes and then was gone like a thief in the night. How awesome it would have been to find a way to breathe longevity into that note. I'm not even a grapefruit fan, yet it was completely realistic before dissipating into the biting herbal accord that is the salutation of Jardin du Poete. The citrus in this scent is interesting. It really is green and bitter with herbal overtones. All the implemented notes perform to suggest a theme rather than showcase themselves. Some have referred to Jardin du Poete as reminding them of a garden. I can't say I'm transported...

Paestum Rose by Eau D'Italie

It's funny how sampling enables one to stumble upon releases they would never otherwise try. I like Rose. I don't love it like some, but have worn some diverse renditions that were very good. Hence my review of Paestum Rose by Eau D'Italie... Wearing this scent, I find the rose to be almost transparent. It's a dry, pastel-like rendition evoking the softness inherent in this flower. While it's airy, it has substance enough to carry the fragrance and incense helps it accomplish this. The rose and incense are in the heartnotes, but I get them immediately upon application; along with a subtle spice courtesy of pepper. These three ( to me) are the bread and butter of Paestum Rose; all the while being versatile enough for either sex. Myrrh, Opoponax, Papyrus and Wenghe are listed as the base accord. I cannot claim to be familiar with Papyrus or Wenghe as parfum notes, but I cannot detect old paper as an aroma anywhere in Eau D'Italie. The Myrrh and Opoponax revita...
