Anne Pliska

Hmmmmm........As soon as I sprayed Anne Pliska on my skin, I had dejavu. I was searching for a mental recall on where I smelled this before and then PRESTO ! Obsession ! Really?.........

I continued thinking this smells exactly like Obsession ( strictly from memory of course) and then I thought, "I forgot how nice Obsession smells". So, after 10 minutes or so, I went and retrieved my weird, oval vintage splash bottle of Obsession and did a side by side.

It turns out the Pliska isn't as sharp as the C.K. and ( at least on me) isn't as loud either. What they have in common is the very obvious and dominant amber note. Generally speaking, there's a strong similarity, but Anne Pliska is the superior fragrance out of the two. Obsession may be it's extroverted and crass cousin for sure, but one can tell within 15 minutes of a comparison that Anne Pliska is a more upscale rendition of amber, vanilla and bit of bite. It settles down and let's you wear it as opposed to Obsession wearing you.

I cannot say I get much citrus in the opening volley with the exception of a minute or two. The amber almost immediately plants its flag and for some time, the amber controls this scent on my skin. It's a nice amber with just enough geranium to make it interesting. As Anne Pliska dries down, I get subtle, intermittent whiffs of what I think is a rose note, but I have to concentrate when I'm smelling it and naturally, this is simply for the sake of sampling and reviewing. The vanilla works well and keep the resin from becoming too grainy. A complimentary musk is also in the mix and blends perfectly with the van-amber accord. The totality of this fragrance is a slightly sweet, powdery, creamy amber with enough spice to put it over the top.

Is Anne Pliska a great fragrance? I would say it's a worthy amber scent and in my opinion, much better than other amber dominants out there. The sillage is good and it also has excellent longevity. For it's price point for niche, it's exceptional and get a thumbs up from me no problem. I recommend amber fans to sample this.

  1. This is one of the only amber scents I truly love. The only other one I can think of is Ambre Sultan from Serge Lutens. However, I don't see any similarity to Obsession at all. That said, I agree with the rest of your review! Like you said, for the price, it's excellent. A fine comfort scent.

  2. Hi Carrie ! It really is a good scent and I enjoyed it through its entirety. Numerous fragrances I find nice but not all the way through. This one was good from start to finish.

I can't help the Obsession association due to the way the amber is implemented. Having worn both at the same time, Obsession comes off a bit tacky and loud in comparison. The CK only smells good to me for awhile and then I have to get away from it. Not so with Pliska.
