The Dreamer by Versace

Sage, Lavender, Mandarin, Tobacco, Geranium, Carnation, Rose, Vetiver, Cedar, Tonka Bean, Fir.

I suppose the thing I noticed most about Versace's The Dreamer is its inherent thickness. By that, I mean there's a dense, tight quality like that of Tiffany for Men. I only refer to the "feel" and not the smell between these two. They smell nothing alike, but they do share this quirk on my skin. It gives both a substantial aspect, albeit it is less pronounced in The Dreamer than the Tiffany. I also admit to liking The Dreamer more each wearing and am happy to have procured a bottle for my work rotation.

The tobacco note that appears soon after application is a very enjoyable rendition. It blooms even more as the wearing ensues, yet doesn't overtake the composition. The intro of citrus and spice lean more toward accenting, while the floral and earth shades succeed in producing the greenish tobacco note that's at the core of The Dreamer.

I do not know how the original release compares to the current one that I'm reviewing. There was a time that I would track down vintages to compare, but no more. There's simply too many creations that are here today and gone tomorrow and to pursue the "originals" these days is too expensive. Besides, I like this "current" version as it is, so it's a mute point.

Versace's The Dreamer is a Tobacco fragrance that, once dried down, reveals a slightly sweet and earthy woody tabac. It's a rather simple composition, but linear is sometimes good. Sillage is average and longevity is approximately 5 hours on me with moderate sprays. Thumbs up from Aromi for The Dreamer by Versace and as always, a sample wear is recommended.

  1. I have a mini of the original formula. Your description matches it completely. It's nice but so far I'm not overwhelmingly tempted to buy a larger bottle. Kinda torn between Dreamer and Lagerfeld Classic when it comes to deciding which has the better tobacco note.
